What Insurance Plans Must Cover
Under the Affordable Care Act (ACA), all plans sold through the health insurance exchanges (such as Covered California) must cover mental health disorders, substance use disorders, and treatment for alcohol and chemical dependency.
Additionally, federal law states that if a plan offers coverage for mental health and substance use disorder treatment, it must cover these services in the same way as it covers most medical and surgical services. This is called “parity.”
California law offers additional protections by requiring every California plan—regardless of where you obtained it—to cover certain mental health conditions.
While most individual and employer-based group insurance plans today provide some coverage for mental health and substance abuse treatment, not all do. It’s important to verify your benefits by calling your insurance company.
We know it can be confusing to navigate insurance benefits. Our staff will help you make sense of your plan and get the maximum amount of coverage you are entitled to.
The ACA protects you in many ways; however, it does not guarantee that Lumina Recovery works with your insurance. The best way to find out is to contact us.
Insurances We Accept
Lumina Recovery works with several insurance providers out of network, such as Aetna, Blue Cross Blue Shield (BCBS), and Cigna.
While some insurance plans don’t cover costs with out-of-network providers, others may cover a portion of out-of-network treatment costs. It all depends on the plan.
Our helpful administrative team will help you understand what your insurance plan covers. We will do everything possible to ensure you get the maximum amount of coverage you are entitled to.
