Everyone deserves care

Aetna Insurance for Addiction Treatment

Aetna is an insurance provider owned by CVS. It is part of a larger managed health care company that provides medical, dental and pharmaceutical plans, among other products, to an estimated 39 million people.

Aetna offers individual and group health insurance in all 50 states and offers plans through the health insurance marketplace in 17 states including California as of early 2024.

If you have health insurance through Aetna, the name of your plan will vary based on where you live, but you should see “Aetna” in the plan name.

Our helpful administrative team can help you verify your coverage and understand your benefits.

Does Aetna Cover Rehab?

Mental and behavioral health services are considered essential health benefits. That means most individual and small employer health insurance plans through Aetna—including all Aetna plans offered through the health insurance marketplace—must cover mental health and substance use disorder services.

There are some exceptions, so it’s important to verify your insurance before entering treatment.

How the Affordable Care Act Protects You

Under the Affordable Care Act (ACA), all plans sold through the health insurance exchanges (such as Covered California) must cover mental health disorders, substance use disorders, and treatment for alcohol and chemical dependency.

Additionally, federal law states that if a group or individual plan offers coverage for mental health and substance use disorder treatment, it must cover these services in the same way as it covers most medical and surgical services. This is called “parity.”

California law offers additional protections by requiring every California plan—regardless of where you obtained it—to cover certain mental health conditions.

While most individual and employer-based group insurance plans today provide some coverage for mental health and substance abuse treatment, not all do. It’s important to verify your benefits by calling your insurance company.

We know it can be confusing to navigate insurance benefits. Our staff will help you make sense of your plan and get the maximum amount of coverage you are entitled to.

The ACA protects you in many ways; however, it does not guarantee that Lumina Recovery accepts your Aetna insurance plan. Nor does it guarantee that your Aetna plan covers substance abuse treatment. The best way to find out is to contact us.

How to Check Your Insurance Benefits

Our team will help you verify your coverage. It’s important to know exactly what your plan covers before you start treatment, so there are no surprise bills down the line.

Even if your plan doesn’t cover everything, Lumina Recovery offers financing options. Here are some possible ways to pay for out-of-pocket treatment costs:

  • Payment plan with monthly installments
  • Lump sum (some health and wellness credit cards offer 0% balance transfer and special financing options for medical expenses)
  • A financial loan or gift from trusted family members

Finances shouldn’t stop you from getting the life-changing treatment you or your loved one needs. Our team will do everything possible to help you get the most out of your insurance plan. Verify your insurance benefits or call us today at (877) 716-7515 to learn more.
